Selling Your Own Digital Product eBook For Profit

Many people make money by promoting other people’s products and wares and making a commission, but some of the best money to be made is by selling your own eBook. Though it is difficult to get visitors to find your website, the beauty of selling your own eBook through a company like Clickbank or e-Junkie (among others), is that other people will sell your eBook for you.  If you want massive amounts of sales this is the best way I know of.

Your eBook doesn’t necessarily have to be a novel, or a story. When I speak of eBooks I’m talking about creating a “How To” guide in a downloadable format. “How To” guides can be on any subject including dating, making money, building a dog house, raising children, or simply anything at all that you might know better than most other people. People are selling eBook downloads on every subject you can think of. Sometimes the competition is fierce. Much of the competition present depends on the subject matter.

However in order to get affiliates promoting your product, you do need to make it enticing for them. If you’re selling a digital product where you make basically 100% of the profits, then those who are promoting it on their own websites or social networks will be expecting a decent cut of the profits. Usually, the commissioned offered is at least 50% of the sale price. There are many sellers offering a commissions of up to 75%.

If your digital product sells for $97 (or more) and you offer a 50% commission that’s a standard incentive. You shouldn’t have too much difficulty getting affiliates to promote your product. However, if your sales page that visitors end up at looks poorly done then you may have difficulty getting people to promote your product. Remember, the higher the commission you offer, the more likely you’ll get people to promote it. Personally, I go no higher than 65%.
Having a decent looking landing page for your product will make it easier for your affiliates to promote your product and will be of great benefit to you, as well. Also, supplying your sales force with sample email promotions, ezine articles, banners, etc. is going to be a whole lot easier for you then what it will be for your affiliate because NO-ONE knows YOUR products as well as you do! Many who will want to sell your product will not want to spend the time creating banners and other items that will help it sell.

How can you create your own affiliate program?

First you need to create your eBook on the subject you choose. This should be done in a PDF format. When completed it can then be compressed into a .zip file and uploaded to a folder on your own website. You would then apply to one of the affiliate houses that promotes digital products. A PDF program that converts your Word documents is available from a number of manufacturers. Some programs are better than others, but I’ve had no problems using PDF Converter Pro.

There are a few options. One of the most liked is Clickbank’s service. When your eBook is ready in a downloadable format they will index your site and make it available to the thousands of people in their database looking for products to sell on commission. This gives you a large audience to find eager and waiting affiliates.

Clickbank will track all sales, clicks to your sales page, refunds, and other information. They also handle all the commissions paid to those who sold your eBook and the payments due to you. Clickbank makes payments to both you and your affiliates on a bi-weekly basis.
