Reason #5 – When Affiliate Marketing Is Not For You
If You Can’t Treat Your Affiliate Marketing Efforts As A Business.
Should you place some AdSense ads on your little personal page, or a family website you have created through some free “website” offer, there is nothing wrong with that, but you shouldn’t consider yourself to be an Affiliate Marketer. You are considered a hobbyist and will likely earn little more than money for a cup of coffee for your efforts.
True Affiliate Marketers have their own websites that they have installed and use for not only providing information, but for the primary goal of making money. They are in business to make money and they treat their entire website “empire” as a business. Many hours are spent improving those websites that aren’t performing well. Much of their time that could be spent watching a sports game or doing personal tasks is spent on their business.
These webmasters set schedules for themselves to work on their websites. They keep records of money spent for office supplies, programs, hostserver costs, and much more, for tax records. They are continuously seeking ways to attract more visitors the their sites and looking for better companies who can maximize their earnings potential.
When an affiliate marketer is on the Internet using Facebook, or chatting it up on other social networks, they are always seeking new opportunities to suggest a link that might earn them a commission. They don’t spend that time farming, fighting, or building a community in some fictitious online game.
Often, a person who is earnings commissions may spend money on advertising their website. They might take a significant amount of their profits each year to put back into their business, in the form of new equipment for the home office, or possibly spend money to outsource work, such as article writing.
True affiliates can be found following schedules they have created for themselves, broken down into days of the week and the tasks that must be completed on those days. Such as,
Monday:
9am-11am – Write and submit 2 articles to EzineArticles.
11am-12pm – Answer comments left on all websites.
12pm-1pm – Lunch
1pm-2pm – Create new logo banner for website ‘X-Y-Z” and install.
2pm-3pm – Visit Yahoo Answers and answer questions to leave backlinks to relevant sites.
3pm-4pm – Install new RSS feed on site “a-b-c.”
While certainly not long days, each day for an affiliate marketer is planned, just as though he had a brick and mortar business that required scheduling to keep the business active and growing. Too many people who think they are going to make money with websites have no plan, or keep to a schedule. This is why they fail.
