How important is it to use H1 and H2 text for a good google ranking?

A question submitted by a member…

Does it really matter if you use headline text like h1, h2 etc? How much difference would that make to your ranking as my site is always around number 11 and i’m trying everything to get it in the top 10

These are some main factors that affect Google rank:

Domain Purchase Length (more years, the better)
Meta Tags: Description, keywords, robot instructions
    Content (Including H1, H2, H3 tags)
Percentage of overall keywords listed in your site. Most believe no more than 10% max
    Geographical Position
    Sites linking to yours (Good)
Links from your sites (Normally Bad)
Inclusion of Sitemap for your Website

All of these factors collectively add up to your ranking. Your Google ranking is pretty good. The H1 and H2 tags are seen as more relevant than H3, or H4

What you should not do is plaster your site with too many keywords. Bots are far more wiser than many might think. The more well established sites that link to yours the better. Try to create backlinks to other websites and you will find you will naturally climb the ranks. There is this big thing about tricking the search engine, but Google adapts quickly to new “schemes” and will punish sites that tried to manipulate the system of ranking.
