Building A Website
EASY WEBSITE CREATION
Building a website is not difficult. Gone are the days of creating a website from scratch using HTML coding (a computer code that converts text into viewable information). Though it is still used for specific functions, or even creating a single page website for a unique purpose, virtually all webmasters have converted over to programs that convert our text and images to HTML code automatically.
My offer of HomeIncome30 was created entirely through the use of HTML coding. Yes, it was time consuming, but less “busy” when completed. Since it created as a sales website it was designed to get out as much information as possible with little clutter. There are times when HTML website building is useful, but 99.9% of the time the only use you will have for knowing HTML is to create a link or possibly insert an image to your website. Even then, virtually all website programs of any worth will provide a WYSIWYG editor (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get) to makes those tasks simplified with a click of the mouse.
What webmasters use today are called “templates.” These are pre-made website pages and are sold for extremely cheap prices because the developer has usually added no extra functions, bells, or whistles to the template. It is a static page that he will reuse over and over again, either changing the color scheme, font, or header design (which only takes a few moments) and selling the new version. These are most prevalent on eBay.
Templates are not necessarily bad – if they are clean and contain no hidden coding. Some developers place a link on the template they sell you that is difficult to remove if you are unfamiliar with the coding. They often use links that provide information to the website (called RSS feeds) making it appear as though it is just packed full of useful information that will make you a fortune. That just isn’t true.
RSS feeds have a purpose at times and must be used in moderation. RSS feeds provide existing information to a website, but that information is old and comes from an existing website. Google, which ranks website worth and reflects that worth in it’s ranking for search returns, despises duplicate content. It will have you buried so far in the Google returns that no one will ever find you and it may even cause you to be “de-indexed.” That is, treated as though you don’t exist.
How do eBay sellers profit from selling templates when they sometimes offer them as low as a few dollars? They hook you with an offer of web hosting for a year at an extremely low rate – perhaps as low as a penny for the first year.
You see, it costs them virtually nothing to reproduce a template. They know that 99% of the people who buy from them won’t change from them as their host. When the hosting for a penny year runs out they then start billing the hosting service at a monthly rate that far exceeds what the major companies charge. They are called “resellers.” Should you be smart enough to get a cheaper, legitimate, hosting service you can expect to lose your website as transferring it is difficult and they must cooperate in allowing the files for your website to be moved.
However, if you can buy a website on eBay for a reasonable price (pay no more than $20 for any website on eBay) and there is no stipulation of having to use their hosting service it may be a good bargain if they are also willing to install it (or provide simple instructions) on your own hosting service.
So, if you just want a website with little control to the source coding (restricting you severely in later years from improving your website) and don’t mind paying more in monthly fees to “automated website hosts” then there are a number of options.
Before going into those options I would ask that you carefully consider the difference between a website “owner” and a “Webmaster.”
A website “owner” is nothing more than a clicker and drag & drop operator. Designs are limited and you have no access to the source coding – something that you will eventually become familiar with given time. When using automated services you cannot transfer your website to a cheaper hosting service. The template is theirs and so is the programming that made it so easy for you to build a website. You are stuck with them forever and should their business fail, so does your website.
A “Webmaster” has complete control over his websites and his business. If he wants to access any part or code of his website he can. If he wants to move his websites to another Host, he can. He is not restricted in any content he deems fit to put on his website (within the boundaries of Federal law). Operating costs are far less and profits are far larger as a Webmaster. You will also learn, over time, those things you didn’t think you were capable of – like how to build your own website from scratch, SEO, graphics, etc. If you want to become a Webmaster, then check out my website program for beginners. You will be a true webmaster sooner than you think.
